Lasting peace isn’t found in temporary things
Everyone desires peace in their lives, and nobody wants the peace that is here one minute and gone the next. This is why it’s so important that our source of peace is constant. Philippians 4:7 tells us that, “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” This means that today, you can find peace through Jesus, and He will always be your constant
God freely gives peace
So how do I get this peace? Right before Philippians 4:7, verse 6 reveals the key to receiving God’s peace. Verse 6 says, “Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God.” This is great news! In this we know that we’re not alone! We have a God who wants us to bring our needs to Him. We also learn from this verse to bring our prayers to Him with thankful hearts. Thankfulness is the result of another’s goodness. When we pray, trust in His goodness and rejoice that we’re not alone and we have God acting on our behalf!
You can walk in peace daily
Philippians 4:8 shows us how we can continuously walk in the peace God gives. It reads, “Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.” We get to decide what we fix our minds on. What and who we listen to or follow impacts our minds and hearts. Find others who encourage you in the good God is doing in your life! Read, watch or listen to things that inspire you to walk in God’s love and goodness. Get to know what God’s word says about you, and in this His peace will remain with you.
