3 Keys to Having Joy in Your Life

Receive Hope

One of the most difficult positions to be in is a place without hope. Where there is no hope, joy is usually scarce. You might be facing situations that feel hopeless.  Be encouraged that there is hope, but it’s not something we can muster up. Hope is a result of knowing what God has for us in every situation. Romans 15:13 says, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” So how do you get this hope that brings joy? Think of it like being in a bleak situation and receiving good news. That good news results in hope! God’s word is our good news! Below is what God says about some of the situations you might be facing. I would encourage you to search for more scriptures about what you are going through and see what God has to say. I promise you His word will bring you hope, and where there is hope joy abounds!

Loneliness: Deuteronomy 31:8 -  And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.

Loss: Psalms 34:18 - The Lord is close to the brokenhearted: He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

Fear: Psalms 34:4 - I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears.

Live with Gratitude

Life is a lot about perspective. Because we live in a fallen world there will always be negative things fighting for our focus which can steal our joy. Living with gratitude isn’t denying the hardships in our world, but being thankful that even in the midst of them God has been so good to us. Psalms 9:2 says, “I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.”  Joy is attached to thankfulness. If we purpose in our hearts to live a life of gratitude even in the difficult moments, we’ll find that joy is still present.

Be a Giver

There’s a joy that comes with giving whether it’s of your finances, time, or your kindness. Unselfishly pouring into another’s life can result in so much joy! Proverbs 11:25 says, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Serving others expecting nothing in return can refresh our souls. I encourage you to find ways, whether big or small, to give to others and experience the joy it brings to your life!
